This 6.2 mile trail is a good option for those seeking solitude. The hike begins at a scenic overlook of rugged Big Island coastline where you will enjoy breakfast provided by your guide. Then you will traverse an old lava flow and enter a Hawaiian cloud forest, while in the forest be on the lookout for wild boars, songbirds and the distinctive bright red blossoms of the native ʻŌhia tree. Finally the hike will take you to the epic Makaopuhi crater, where you will enjoy lunch from a lookout point three hundred feet above the crater floor.
